The original Royal Exchange, St Benet Fink Church and much of the City of London is destroyed in the Great Fire. The Rebuilding of London Act is passed almost immediately, spearheaded by Sir Christopher Wren

Soon after the dissolution of monasteries, St. Anthony’s was taken over by French Huguenot Protestants and known as the French Church, rebuilt after the 1666 Great Fire. In the 1840s, the church was pulled down and the site used for Moxhay’s Hall of Commerce, a would-be rival to the nearby Royal Exchange (on Cornhill)

The site of the former Hall of Commerce had housed Bank of London (1852), Consolidated Bank (1866) and then Parr’s Bank (1896). In 1918 Parr’s Bank was absorbed by the Westminster Bank and, after WW 1, re-built entirely as (partly) seen today
